The Beginning
Advanced Seals the beginning
Russell emigrated from the UK with his wife and 3 young sons. Where he had worked as a qualified Machine tool Fitter. After Arriving in New Zealand in 1995 he started working at Interlock then onto Hasbro Toys, then later moving into the Seal business and joining Seal Jet, till he started the family business.
Russell West started the Family business in October 2000. He was based from home and drove around in a rickety old van which squeaked.
Russell then moved into a shared building on Hillside Road Glenfield with 1 aisle of stock and a small reception desk and phone with a singing codfish on the wall. This is where Luke, his eldest son joined the family business learning the ropes from his dad.
It was not long before they outgrew their 1 aisle moving into their own building in Vega Place Mairangi Bay with a total startup of 6 aisles the Cod fish and its friend the parrot. After a few months, Grant Russell’s middle son joined the team in late 2005 and worked alongside his brother Luke. In 2007 Holly (Grants' wife) joined to take control of admin from there in 2009 Russell then bought their 1st CNC Sealmaker machine, and John joined the team to run the CNC.
They soon grew out of this small building and moved to William Pickering Drive Albany, in 2012 adding 2 more CNC machines to the fleet. Russell’s youngest son Karl joined the team to help run the CNC department. Julie, his wife joined Russell in running Advanced Seals in 2015 after working at Progressive Enterprises for 20 years.
Russell wanted to expand into a new build, which he found in Silverdale in 2020. This is where Advanced Seals now resides with a bigger team. Unfortunately, Russell was diagnosed with Cancer in 2017 and passed away in September 2020, His Boys are now running the show and carrying on the family business, making their Dad proud.
